In 2016, Cureus and TME sponsored a case report research competition called: Exceptional Responders in Breast cancer. We sought challenging cases where breast cancer patients exhibited unexpected or exceptional responses (positive or negative) to a therapy or diagnostic approach. A distinguished panel of Breast Care Network reviewers did the initial reviews and the Cureus community weighed in to judge the article for impact and novelty.
Many cases were submitted for review, 25 new publications were produced and articles have been viewed close to 20,000 times in the last several weeks. Submissions came from across the country including Johns Hopkins, University of Kansas, William Beaumont, UPMC, University of Colorado, and other academic institutions, as well as many submissions from community physicians.
The winning case report was announced August 2: Metastatic Breast Cancer with BRCA Mutation Discovered By Next-Generation Sequencing Responding to Olaparib principle author Dr. Wajeeha Rizvi at the University of Kansas Medical School.
The articles that finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively were: Helical Tomotherapy for Postmastectomy Radiotherapy after Immediate Left Breast Reconstruction: A Case Study and Excellent Response with Ado-Trastuzumab Emtansine in a Patient with Relapsed Metastatic Breast Cancer Presenting with Pulmonary Lymphangitic Carcinomatosis
We encourage you to visit Cureus at www.cureus.com And we look forward to meeting Dr. Rizvi in November at our Annual Breast Care Summit.
Thanks to all those who submitted and our fine review panel!
